The Green Team Wins $18K from Fairfield County Community Foundation

foundation supports Energy Conservation Enterprise Development
program
BRIDGEPORT,
Conn. – August, 2009 — The Green Team recently received $18,000
from the Fairfield County Community Foundation's (FCCF) Workforce
Innovation in Regional Economic Development Supplemental Funds
(WIRED) for their Energy Conservation Enterprise Development
program.

were thrilled that the Fairfield Community Foundation has made
the commitment to support this groundbreaking program, said
Adrienne Houël, President and CEO of The Green Team. "The
funding will provide critical job training and support to Greater
Bridgeport residents."
This
$18,000 grand will support the Green Team's Energy Conservation
Enterprise Development program, The program will prepare 10
low-income Bridgeport area residents for employment as Weatherization
Technicians. Seven of them will be employed in a new social
enterprise developed by the Green Team, under the WIRED grant,
to addresss the energy conservation needs of moderate-income
families, wh ile three will be placed in other companies in
the energy conservation field in the Bridgeport region. The
program's principal funding emanates from the US Department
of Labor's Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development
(WIRED) Initiative of which the green team is one of the first
round awardees.
The
Green Team will recruit and assess aabout 30 applicants, enroll
15, graduate 10, employ 7 in its own Weatherization activity
and find employment in the industry for 3. Students must be
18 or older and hold a high school diploma. The Program will
target a diverse class made up of both Bridgeport residents
and those of the surrounding 5-town area.

About The Green Team: Greater Bridgeport Community Enterprises Inc. (GBCE), more commonly known as The Green Team, was formed in December of 2006 with a three pronged program, focused on developing green businesses, training low-income residents to be employed in those businesses, and creating partnerships across the region and state with private industry in an effort to define their needs and develop relevant training for new, green jobs. Since its inception, The Green Team has trained, graduated, and employed more than 80 students, nearly all of which are actively working in the green economy sector. The organization plans to train, and place 75 more students in 2009.
